Who should be the Sole Survivor? – Survivor: Cagayan [with Poll]

Survivor Cagayan Finale

The season finale of Survivor: Cagayan – Brawn vs. Brain vs. Beauty, dubbed to be ‘One of the Greatest Seasons of Survivor,’ will feature four remaining castaways with two more immunity challenges and three more tribal councils. Instead of a Final Three, this season will go back to its traditional Final Two in Final Tribal Council. Hence, only two among Tony, Spencer, Kass and Woo will face off and get a chance to plead their case to the jury of why they deserve to get the title Sole Survivor and take home the One Million Dollars.

But before the 28th installment of the biggest reality show concludes on May 20, let’s weigh in the players’ chances of winning the game.

Woo, the Ninja

Survivor Woo

Why he might not win?

It took Woo until the final five to make a move on his own, which is voting out his former ally Trish. It’s also hard to consider him to be the mastermind of that blindside, because if it weren’t for Kass he would never ever realize that Tony wanted to backstab him. If he’s sitting next to Tony in the final tribal council, many members of the jury will probably deem Woo as Tony’s puppet.

Why he should win?

Remember what’s the reason why Cochran (the winner of Survivor: Caramoan) wanted Brenda out of the game. He said, “Likability is a liability in the game.” And that’s the same reason why Tony wants Woo gone.

Besides the fact that Woo has a role for blindsiding LJ and Jefra, Tony is the only one taking the heat. If the ninja thinks that he doesn’t have a bad rep to the jury, then he may have a chance of winning the game, depending on who’s going to sit next to him in the final two and if the jury won’t set aside their bitterness.

Chaos Kass

Survivor Kass

Why she might not win?

Kass thinks that Tony is annoying, but maybe she’s not aware that some of the members of the jury are annoyed with her too. In the last tribal council, she called Trish as “skeleton wild, blue-eyed banshee” which is a very personal attack considering how very thin Trish was. Kass even gave Trish a finger while the latter was leaving the tribal council. Take note, she did all of these in front of the jury. Sarah gaped at her, while LJ shook his head. The jury might consider her behaviour as a reason not to vote for her if she makes it to the final two.

Why she should win?

Dubbed as Chaos Kass, she has created a very unusual chaos in the camp on two occasions. First, she surprisingly flipped against her allies in the tribal council which is considered to be “One of the Greatest Tribal Councils in the History of Survivor” where two hidden immunity idols were used in vain. Everyone at home was expecting that Jefra would be the one voted out, but in the end it turned out that Kass had flipped sending Sarah to Ponderosa.

Second, Kass revealed to Woo that Tony had a final-three deal with her and pumped Woo to make a move, thus ousting Tony from his very powerful position in the game and saving herself from a possible elimination. Unarguably, these are two of the biggest moves of the season which she can put in her resume once she faces the jury in the final tribal council.

Spencer, the Underdog

Survivor Spencer

Why he might not win?

The primary disadvantage when you are in the minority alliance is how hard it is to strategize. We’ve seen a lot of castaways in the previous seasons who were on an immunity rampage but still didn’t win in the end (ex. Kelly from Survivor: Borneo, Colby from Survivor: The Australian Outback.) That goes to show that the jury prioritize more the strategic aspect of the game rather than the physical one. If Spencer can pull this off until the end, he’s going to need a lot of explaining to do to convince the jury that he’s not only a physical player but also a strategic one.

Why he should win?

Winning three immunity challenges and four reward challenges, Spencer is clearly a physical threat in the game. He’s often at the most disadvantage position but he won immunity when he needed it the most.

If Kass makes chaos in the camp, Spencer makes paranoia. Prior to the 11th tribal council, he knew that he would be the one next to go. That’s why, with the help of Tasha, Spencer created a fake paranoia that there was an on-going girls’ alliance in the camp, thus persuading the other two male castaways to flip and vote one of the girls instead of him. After this move had saved him from a possible elimination, he went to a back-to-back immunity wins which made him reach the finale.

One thing good about being in the minority is that most of your allies are already sent to the jury. If his allies will remain loyal to him till the end as he was to them until they’re voted out, no doubt Spencer will just collect their votes.

One more thing, Spencer has a good social politics which he can utilize in the final tribal council. Just like Woo, Spencer is also likable to win the game.

Tony and His Bag of Tricks

Survivor Tony

Why he might not win?

The only thing hard about carrying out blindside is that you have to contemplate that those people who you will backstab are the ones who will decide your fate in the end of the game. If these people remain bitter until the final tribal council, you’re going to have a hard time convincing them to vote for you. That’s the problem Tony will face if he will be part of the final two, since he’s the mastermind of LJ’s and Jefra’s blindsides.

One more thing, Tony is a big fat liar. He’s said a lot of lies during the course of the game. Some of which are very unnecessary, especially when he said to the host Jeff Probst that he’s a construction worker when many of them already know that he’s a cop.

If Kass is right that Tony is annoying, we might expect a no win for Tony this season.

Why he should win?

So what’s within Tony’s bag of tricks? A lot of strategies which he can boast to the jury in the final tribal council.

Tony takes the credits for being the person responsible for LJ’s and Jefra’s eliminations. Everyone likes big moves. And if you’ve watched the video of Trish arriving at Ponderosa, the whole jury is convinced that Tony is still the mastermind behind her elimination, when in fact he’s not. The only truth is that Tony voted out Trish.

Moreover, Tony is an idol-buster after finding three hidden immunity idols. One of which is an idol with a special power which is still in his possession. It’s also worthy to note that he found that special idol without a clue and just by digging in the landmarks around the camp. Though he can no longer use that special idol, he plans to use it to cover up a great lie that he’s allowed to use the idol until the final four. If he can pull this off, he has a guaranteed position in the final three whether he wins the immunity challenge or not.

With all these strategies well-planned and well-executed, Tony is undoubtedly the castaway who played the best game.

It’s been a great season. Indeed, it takes a great cast to have a great season.

Four are left. Who will be hailed as the Sole Survivor? Let’s find out on May 21!

  1. I want Spencer to win, for the simple facts that he survived being the only one of his alliance to make it to the end, and also didn’t cause too many problems. He’s been civilized, and generally respectful (at least for Survivor standards). 🙂

  2. I agree. I like Spencer to win, too. But I’m also rooting for Tony and Kass, Too. It’s very rare to watch a season where all the remaining players in the finale are all great. That’s why I really love this season.
